History

Japan Association for Real Estate Sciences was founded in November 1984, by numerous promoters of various sectors ranging from business(real estate, construction, finance),through public(Ministry of Construction and National Land Agency; currently Ministry of National Land, Infrastructure and Transport)to academic(universities and research institutes)in the light of the necessity for promoting inter-disciplinary research and education to analyze the utilization and distribution of real estate as well as for establishing real estate science as a unique domain. In the year 2000, it legally incorporated. At present, it holds the participation of more than 1,300 active members involved in social, natural and other scientific research on real estate issues or involved in related business. In addition, more than 120 firms and groups join as supporting members.

Purpose

This association aims to contribute to the promotion of scientific activities and to the improvement of people's life by enhancing inter-disciplinary research and education on real estate and by providing the results to society.

Activities

This association sponsors following activities:

1. Gatherings and Lectures
   • Spring National Assembly
   • Autumn National Assembly(academic lecture meeting)
   • Open symposium, etc.
2. Publication of academic bulletins and others
   • Publication of "Nihon Fudousan Gakkaishi(The Japanese Journal of Real Estate Sciences)"(4 issues a year)
   • Other publications
3. Research and investigation
   • In-house research
   • Contract research consigned by the government or other organizations
4. Promotion of research and public recognition of research achievement
   • Award JARES Prize to those who made prominent contributions to the development of real estate science and business
   • Invite to proposals for academic research projects on real estate related issues and subsidize selected projects
5. International exchange of knowledge and experience on real estate
   • Promotion and support of international exchange, etc.

Membership

This association consists of the following members:

1. Full Members: Those who have academic experiences in various fields related to real estate, those who are involved in real estate related business with outstanding experiences, and those who are enrolled in graduate course studying real estate related subjects.
2. Supporting Members: Corporations or other groups who approve the purpose of this association.
3. (3)Honorary Members: Those who made a prominent contribution in academic research on real estate and are recommended by the Board of Directors.
